JMU men’s soccer opened up conference play Saturday night in commanding fashion. Two goals from senior forward Aaron Ward-Baptiste and one from redshirt sophomore forward Carson Jeffris lifted the Dukes to a 3-0 win over No. 21 Drexel, the Dragons’ first loss of the season.
It didn’t take long for Ward-Baptiste to put JMU ahead. In the seventh minute, a corner from junior midfielder Manuel Ferriol found the head of Ward-Baptiste, who was able to get it past the back post to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Englishman was able to grab a second goal in the 64th minute. Ward-Baptiste connected with a cross from junior defender/midfielder Niclas Mohr and put JMU up by two goals. Eleven minutes later, Jeffris added an insurance goal and made the score 3-0.
JMU improves to 3-2-1 (1-0-0 CAA) and will host Northeastern on Saturday at 8 p.m. Drexel, now 4-1-1 (0-1-0 CAA), faces Bucknell on Tuesday.
