JMU men’s golf placed eighth out of 14 teams at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday and Sunday. Freshman Nick Schlickenrieder finished Saturday with the lowest round of his collegiate career after opening with a 2-under 70. He birdied three of his final five holes to shatter his previous best by three strokes.
The team carded rounds of 288 (E) and 293 (+5) Saturday, good for eighth in a competitive field featuring four nationally ranked teams. JMU held that position through Sunday and finished with 168 pars, 40 birdies and two eagles.
The Dukes were fifth at par-3 holes (+12), ninth at par-4 holes (+15) and eighth at par-5 holes (-6). Schlickenrieder led JMU with a score of -2 on par-4 holes while junior Ryan Cox had team-high 40 pars and a team-best score of +1 on par-3 holes.
Schlickenrieder and sophomore Ignacio Montero finished one stroke behind at +2 while freshman Ignacio De Pineda finished -5 on par-5 holes, a team-best mark. De Pineda and Tucker each finished with one eagle while Schlickenrieder led JMU with 11 birdies.
JMU will resume action March 4-5 at the ECU Intercollegiate in Greenville, North Carolina.
