On Saturday, the JMU cross country team hosted the JMU Invitational at New Market Battlefield. The Dukes finished third out of six teams after they finished first in the Bridgewater Invitational.
Freshman Laura Webb was a highlight for the Dukes after finishing sixth with a time of 21:50.5. Junior Brooke Manion and Senior Caitlin Swanson finished within the top 20, with times of 22:11.0 and 22:11.2, respectively. Elon’s senior Scolasticah Kemi dominated the invitational taking home first place.
"We did some good things today. We followed the race plan and we raced hard,” JMU head coach Dave Rinker said to JMU Athletics. “We have been working extremely hard, and some are struggling with the workload. However, if we can fight through this, we have a chance to be pretty good."
Next, JMU will travel to Charlotte for the Queens City Invitational on Sept. 27. The Dukes’ first open will be on Oct. 18 at Penn State.
