UPDATE (March 4 at 8:45 a.m.): The HPD took Garcia into custody at approximately 2 a.m. after receiving a tip that he was headed to Dulles Airport.
The Harrisonburg Police Department is searching for Tomas Miguel Villegas Garcia, who’s a suspect in an arson case stemming from an incident earlier today. A fire was reported at approximately 12:40 p.m. on the 200 block of Broad Street. Upon arrival, the HPD and Harrisonburg Fire Department found two juveniles inside and were able to help them to safety, while stopping the fire.
Further investigation from the fire marshal revealed that the fire was set intentionally. The fire marshal later obtained a warrant for Garcia’s arrest. The HFD continues to investigate the crime.
Garcia is described as a 5-foot-11-inch and 135-pound 28-year-old white male. The HFD encourages anyone with information on the suspect or the crime to contact HPD’s major crimes unit at 540-437-2640.
