The suspect has been charged with  two counts of making threats of death or bodily injury.

The Harrisonburg Police Department received two complaints of anonymous threats made Friday, which were sent via AirDrop to JMU students. Detectives with HPD’s Major Crimes Unit began investigating immediately.

A suspect has since been identified and arrested. Joseph Sams III, 19, of Richmond was charged with two counts of making threats of death or bodily injury. Detectives concluded that Sams’ threat was intended as a prank and poses no safety concerns to the public.

HPD said it takes all threats of violence “very seriously” and asks the community to report such activity. If anyone has further information in regard to the incident, HPD asks to be contacted by calling the Major Crimes Unit at (540) 437-2650.
