Around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, there were reports of gunshots at the Walmart located on Burgess Road in Harrisonburg. Local police responded to multiple reports of the incident and advised in a tweet that individuals should “avoid this area if possible” until the investigation is complete.
HPD hasn’t identified any victims at this time. According to WHSV, a witness stated there were three individuals arguing outside Walmart. The witness then heard five gunshots fired and glass shattered soon after. According to the witness, a male and female ran toward the store and another male ran the opposite way.
“HPD believes that the individuals involved departed the scene on foot,” HPD said in a press release. “HPD’s Major Crimes Unit is currently on the scene and continues to investigate.”
