At approximately 1:17 p.m., the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the 100 block of South Carlton Street for an unknown situation. As officers were making their way to the scene, they were updated by dispatchers that an individual had been struck by a vehicle in a parking lot.
HPD was on scene within two minutes of the call and began assisting the victim, who was unconscious but breathing. The rescue squad transported the victim to Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital soon after.
The extent of the victim’s injuries are unknown at this time. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that the victim, a female, was exiting a vehicle that was reversing and it backed over her lower extremities and chest. The incident has been determined to have been unintentional, and no charges will be pressed, according to HPD.
