The annual Great American Campout, which is hosted by the National Wildlife Federation, will take place Saturday, according to a press release from the city of Harrisonburg. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at Hillandale Park, and participants must register prior.
GAC is part of an initiative for children to become more active and spend more time outside by encouraging them to be more aware and connected to nature.
“We are excited to offer families an opportunity to utilize one of our City parks for a free night of camping,” Erik Dart, Harrisonburg’s Parks and Recreation’s athletics and special events manager, said in the release. “It’s a perfect opportunity for those who may be new to camping, or camping for their very first time, to not have to travel far and essentially camp in their own backyard.”
