Positive cases on campus account for nearly 2.4% of the student body.

Data reported by The Breeze’s COVID-19 dashboard Tuesday indicates that the university has reached 528 COVID-19 cases on campus, accounting for nearly 2.4% of the student population.

The milestone follows a recent uptick in cases in Harrisonburg City, which has reported 45, 61 and 77 new cases since Aug. 30, respectively. JMU also saw a sharp increase as the university reported 138 new cases Monday.

Currently, 152 students have tested positive for COVID-19 in the University Health Center, and 17 positive students are currently living on campus, according to the Virginia Department of Health for JMU’s exclusive ZIP code, 22807.

As cases continue to rise, the number of available isolation beds is beginning to steadily decrease. According to The Breeze’s dashboard, 79 of the original 143 isolation beds are still available for use.
