JMU announced spring break 2021 has been cancelled because of the coronavirus.

JMU removed spring break from the official academic calendar Friday. Instead of an official week off school, the calendar includes two “Break Days” to the spring semester. The university will still be closed on Friday, March 12 as originally planned. There’ll be no class on Feb. 17, March 12 and April 8.

The university also announced the spring semester will begin a week later than planned, with classes starting on Jan.19.

According to the JMU website, the decision to cancel spring break was made to “help curb the spread of COVID-19 caused by travel.”

This decision follows shortly after other Virginia universities such as UVA and Virginia Tech also canceled their spring breaks.
