The park will likely remain closed for two weeks and will be locked each evening following the eventual reopening.

Denton Park, located on South Main Street, is experiencing a temporary closure for cleaning and maintenance.

The park was first closed Wednesday night after an officer responded to concerns of park patrons following the death of a dog.

During the park’s closure, Parks and Recreation staff will repair lights, clean the park’s waterfall fountain and perform general maintenance. According to a press release from the city of Harrisonburg, the park will likely remain closed for two weeks and will be locked each evening following the eventual reopening.

The city requests that visitors refrain from littering and misuse of the park, as it may result in additional closures in the future.

“Just like any of our parks facilities or public spaces in Harrisonburg, visitors need to be mindful of their impact and remember that others wish to enjoy these areas, too,” Harrisonburg Communications Director Mike Parks said.
