Jonathan Alger (above) announced Wednesday afternoon that JMU is moving all of its courses online for the rest of the semester.

JMU President Jonathan Alger sent an email to all students around 5:45 p.m. stating that all classes are going online for the rest of the spring semester, residence halls are closing early, refunds are coming and spring commencement ceremonies are postponed.

Alger went on to say that these were “incredibly difficult choices” the university had to make.

“My heart aches for all of you who have poured yourselves completely into your own unique and special Madison experiences,” Alger said in the email. “It was impossible for any of you—or indeed any of us—to have imagined that the school year, and for some your academic time at Madison, would end in this way.”
