The Robert Morris Colonials put up a fight in Bridgeforth Stadium but JMU emerged victorious in their second football match of the spring 2021 season

JMU Head Football Coach Curt Cignetti warned JMU Nation that this Robert Morris team would be much different than the one they faced in 2018. He was right.

The Dukes hosted the Colonials Saturday in their Week Two matchup at Bridgeforth Stadium, and following a quick safety to open the first quarter, Robert Morris sent the Dukes a message – there’s a game to play today. Morris would hold a touchdown lead over the Dukes for most of the first half.

Redshirt Senior Quarterback Cole Johnson struggled in the first half, throwing three interceptions, but bounced back late in the second quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr.

An Ethan Ratke extra point tied the score at halftime at 16 apiece.

The second half was all Dukes, however, as JMU’s offense quickly scored on their opening drive in the third quarter – a nine-play, 75-yard series ending in a seven-yard rushing touchdown by senior running back Percy Agyei-Obese.

JMU’s defense also shut down the Colonials in the final 30 minutes, leading to JMU winning an intense contest, 36-16.

Following the win, JMU advances to 2-0 on the season. The face CAA-rival Elon on the road next week. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
