JMU basketball Feb. 5 weekly recap
JMU Basketball has been in full-swing in 2021. This past week, the Men played impressively and won three straight versus Towson, Drexel and Elon. Against the Tigers, senior guard Matt Lewis and junior guard Vado Morse scored a combined 42 points in a stellar offensive showcase, leading to a 78-63 win. Three days later, the Women were on the road in a two-game series against the College of Charleston Cougars.
On Saturday, double-doubles from junior guard Jaylin Carodine and sophomore guard Kiki Jefferson helped spur the Dukes to their eighth win of the season. Sunday, JMU fell two points short to the Cougars in a close 63-65 loss. The women are now 8-6 on the season and sit at fourth place in the CAA.
As for the men, following a weekend win against the Drexel Dragons, the 9-5 Dukes played host to the Phoenix of Elon on Wednesday. Forwards Michael Christmas and Zach Jacobs dominated in the first half, scoring a combined 17 points while Lewis and Company burned the Phoenix behind the arc in an endless barrage of threes. J
MU won its tenth game of the regular season and their fourth game in a row. The Men are still sitting at second place behind Northeastern. Their next game is set for Tuesday, February 9 at 4 p.m. on the road against UNCW.

JMU women's basketball battled back and forth with Elon, but separated itself en route to a 67-55 win. Madison Green led the game with 18 points.
JMU women's basketball took a 67-55 win yesterday over Elon, and looked to carry momentum into the game Sunday in the second half of the series. Thanks to Kiki Jefferson, Rayne Tucker and Jamia Hazell, the Dukes repeated the success and took down the Phoenix, 67-54.
